Accepted Waste

Resource Recovery

When the different materials are seperarted before being loaded, the gate rate will decrease because it will be easier to sort through the commercial/industrial waste. When renovating or demolishing, a handy tip would be to seperate your waste before hiring a skip to reduce air space and the recycling fee.

Concrete

concrete 150x121 Accepted Waste

When structures or sites made of concrete are demolished or renovated, an increasingly common method of utilizing the rubble is concrete recycling. Concrete was once routinely trucked to landfills for disposal, but recycling has become a more common practice because of a number of benefits that have made it a more attractive option in this age of greater environmental awareness, more environmental laws, and the desire to keep construction costs down.

Concrete aggregate collected from demolition sites is put through a crushing machine. Crushing facilities accept only uncontaminated concrete, which must be free of trash, wood, paper and other such materials. Metals such as rebar are accepted, since they can be removed with magnets and other sorting devices and melted down for recycling elsewhere. The remaining aggregate chunks are sorted by size. Larger chunks may go through the crusher again. After crushing has taken place, other particulates are filtered out through a variety of methods including hand-picking and water flotation.

Crushing at the actual construction site using portable crushers reduces construction costs and the pollution generated when compared with transporting material to and from a quarry. Large road-portable plants can crush concrete and asphalt rubble at up to 600 tons per hour or more. These systems normally consist of a rubble crusher, side discharge conveyor, screening plant, and a return conveyor from the screen to the crusher inlet for reprocessing oversize materials. We provide the Brisbane area with a sustainable business that is dedicated to recycling and the re-use of materials. Activities are focused on the segregation of materials from the construction and demolition waste streams, to minimize waste to landfill.

More benefits of recycling concrete:

  • Keeping concrete debris out of landfills saves landfill space.
  • Using recycled material as gravel reduces the need for gravel mining.
  • Recycling one ton of cement could save 1,360 gallons water, 900 kg of co2
  • Using recycled concrete as the base material for roadways reduces the pollution involved in trucking material.

After material is processed, aggregates and fines are sold for use by local councils, government departments, civil contractors, builders, plumbers and landscapers for a wide variety of uses throughout the building and construction industry. Besides being environmentally friendly, our products are more cost effective than natural quarried products, thus lowering the cost of construction. Bricks

Bricks are a part of every industrial waste load and it is inevitable that some will go into landfill but we make it our duty to recycle and reduce what does go to landfill.

Recycling Process

Recycling bricks minimises the need for mining and quarrying activities to produce new bricks and diverts significant quantities of waste materials from landfill. Recycling bricks also results in cost savings for businesses through avoidance of landfill fees and transport costs, and through the reuse of bricks in other construction applications such as paving and landscaping.

A number of commercial operators provide brick recycling facilities, such as bins and dumpsters, which can be placed on site (commercial, demolition or residential sites) for the collection and removal of bricks. When they go to remove the bins you can ask for it to be unloaded into recycling facilities such as Resource Recoveries. Bricks can be recycled in two ways. First, they can be cleaned and reused in another building or project. Alternatively, they can be crushed into brick chips (for use as a landscape material) and/or finer particles (for use in manufacturing road-base, track and drainage material, fill sand or new bricks).

Bitumen/Bitumen Profiling

Because of the large number of road upgrade projects happening around the area we take road base which create a cost effective Crushed Recycled Concrete (20%) and bitumen (80%) Base or Sub-base material. For rural service roads, fill under slabs, driveways, car parks etc. See Products for details.

Soil

Inevitably we recieve large amounts of soil in almost every truck load of waste because of the nature of loading the trucks with the waste picks up soil all the time. We recycle this soil by putting it through a number of screens to create a finer more effective product. See Products for details.

Tree Stumps

Large trees like the Gum and Pine come with huge stumps that need to be discarded. We recycle these by sheering them into smaller pieces then putting them through the shredder. See Products for details.

Gyprock

Gyprock boards, Plaster boards ect can all be recycled and separated to create a gypsum powder that is nearly as good as the virgin quality and can be done efficiently if high quantities are available. Once high volumes are reached Resource Recoveries and Recycling will research the possibilities of having this equipment in Queensland.

Resource Recoveries and Recycling are endevouring to separate and recycle all recyclable materials, this includes cardboard/paper. When the resources become available, we will research and customize our process to get the most out of recycling paper and cardboard. How the majority of paper/cardboard is being processed is being separated, shredded then bailed for removal and export.
